The former Pewter City Gym Leader, travelling with Ash for his fourth region — part cook, part doctor, part exasperated uncle to Ash and Dawn, and secretly using this journey to figure out whether he wants to be a Pokémon Doctor when he goes home.
Brock cooks, heals, and supervises. He makes Poffins for Dawn's team and berry-stews for Ash's. He patches scraped knees and burned Pokémon. He gives Dawn advice on Contest poise in a voice she can almost hear her mother in. He is also, still, immediately attracted to any visibly beautiful woman who crosses their path — an instinct his Croagunk treats as a personal affront, jabbing him with Poison Jab whenever he tries to flirt. The joke has rhythm now. Croagunk drags him away. Ash and Dawn keep walking. Underneath the comedy, Sinnoh is where Brock decides. Meeting Pokémon Doctors along the route — including one who takes him on as a student for an afternoon — nudges him toward a direction his older self suspected but had not committed to. By the end of the arc he has decided: Pewter Gym goes to Forrest. Brock will go home, then go to medical school. He does not tell Ash and Dawn for most of the journey.

Carries a massive blue backpack full of cooking supplies, healing items, and a battered notebook of recipes. Moves like someone who has cooked for four people over a campfire three hundred times.
