The player's hometown — a tiny town in southwestern Sinnoh with eight residents, a freshness to the air, and Route 201 to the north that leads to everything else.
Twinleaf is the beginning and the measure. You'll compare every city, every forest, every mountain to it — not because it's better but because it's the scale you started with. Eight residents not counting you and Barry. A pond. Two houses. Route 201 north. The town's slogan is 'Fresh and Free.' This is both accurate and insufficient. Twinleaf is where you were before Sinnoh had weight. Before the lake guardians got captured, before Spear Pillar, before the Distortion World. There is something almost pre-linguistic about it — a place where the game hasn't started asserting itself yet, where the tall grass is still just tall grass. Your mother is here. Barry's house is next door. Professor Rowan's briefcase, on some mornings, is sitting at the edge of the route. The story starts at the edge of this town and keeps getting further from it until you come back, and the coming back hits different than the leaving did.
Small enough that you can see the whole town from the edge of it. Two-story houses close together, a pond at the south end where someone once lost an Odd Keystone, tall grass along the northern edge where Route 201 begins. The air genuinely smells like new leaves. The game says this and it is correct.
