The town east of Twinleaf where Professor Rowan's lab sits — the first town after leaving home, where you receive your Pokédex and where the journey formally begins.
Sandgem is the first threshold. You leave Twinleaf along Route 201, reach Sandgem, and receive the Pokédex. Everything before this was prologue; Sandgem is where the game's machinery clicks into place. Professor Rowan's lab here is his base of operations — where he studies evolution, where the starters live before being distributed, where Lucas works as his assistant when the player is Dawn. The town itself is small, unhurried, and slightly proud of its role in the annual tradition of sending children out into the wilderness with a Pokédex and some encouragement.
A small coastal town with sandy beaches to the south and a clean, modest layout. Professor Rowan's lab is the largest building — a proper research facility, not a converted house. The beach gives it a slightly brighter quality than Twinleaf's forest softness.
