A coal mining city built on energy extraction — Sinnoh's first gym stop, home of the Oreburgh Mine, and a city whose slogan 'City of Energy' is both industrial and slightly aspirational.
Oreburgh runs on coal and fossil Pokémon and a certain honest pride in knowing what you are. The mine dominates the city's economy and identity. Automated extraction systems work alongside Pokémon — particularly Machop — in the underground tunnels. Safety vents dot the street level, exchanging stale mine air for surface air. The Oreburgh Mining Museum is free and takes fossils seriously. It's also where fossil resurrection happens — the game mechanizing the mythology of bringing back the ancient past, which is one of the series' best conceits. Roark runs the mine as safety supervisor and runs the gym. The miners use the gym as a break space. This is Oreburgh: the practical and the dedicated occupying the same room without contradiction.
Dark stone buildings and industrial venting structures that exchange underground air with the surface. Miners pass through in workwear. The mine shaft entrance is visible from the main street. The mining museum is larger than you'd expect — pride of place in a city that knows what it lives on.
