Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf are the lake trio — three Pokémon created by Arceus to balance the creation deities. They embody knowledge, emotion, and willpower respectively. According to mythology, when Uxie flew over ancient Sinnoh, humans gained the ability to solve problems. The birth of knowledge. Uxie keeps its eyes closed because seeing them erases the memory of anyone who looks. This is presented as protective — Uxie doesn't want to harm. Whether this was always the case or developed over time as something like mercy is one of the questions the mythology leaves open. Team Galactic captures Uxie along with Mesprit and Azelf to forge the Red Chain. The lake guardians can together destroy the Red Chain, which is what ultimately allows Giratina's intervention to matter. A small, pale grey fairy-like creature with a large round head, two gem-adorned tails, and permanently closed eyes. Its expression is serene in the way that things without expression can be serene. The red gem on its forehead is the only bright color on it.
