Mesprit

Character from Pokémon Platinum by Game Freak / Nintendo

The Being of Emotion — the lake guardian of Lake Verity who is said to have given humans the capacity to feel, and the first lake guardian Mars and Cyrus move against.

According to mythology, when Mesprit flew over Sinnoh, humans first felt joy and sorrow. The birth of emotion. Cyrus would call this the origin of suffering. The myth calls it a gift. Mesprit inhabits Verity Cavern at the center of Lake Verity — the lake near Twinleaf Town, the player's lake, the first lake. Team Galactic captures it as part of the Red Chain project. After being freed, Mesprit behaves uniquely among the three guardians: it roams Sinnoh rather than returning immediately to its lake, appearing at various routes across the region. This is interpreted as curiosity, or gratitude, or the behavior of something that has spent its whole existence in one small place and is now finally moving. Cyrus's goal is to create a world without spirit, without the capacity for emotion. Mesprit is the most direct philosophical counterargument.

Appearance

A small pale pink fairy-like creature with two gem-adorned tails and wide pink eyes that carry an expression of deep feeling. The red gem on its forehead matches Uxie's, but everything else about Mesprit radiates warmth — or whatever the non-anthropomorphic equivalent of warmth is in a divine Pokémon.
