The Pokémon of antimatter — banished by Arceus to the Distortion World for its violent nature, the mascot of Pokémon Platinum, and the entity that intervenes at Spear Pillar to drag Cyrus into its realm.
Giratina exists in the space between things: between dimensions, between Dialga's time and Palkia's space, between punishment and purpose. Arceus banished it to the Distortion World for its violent nature at the universe's creation. Giratina has been there since — observing the real world from its reverse-mirror realm, waiting. What Giratina wants is ambiguous in the way that very old, very powerful things are ambiguous. It intervenes at Spear Pillar not to be heroic but because Cyrus's summoning of both Dialga and Palkia threatens the dimensional stability it exists within. It drags Cyrus into the Distortion World. Whether this is justice or self-preservation or something neither word covers isn't clear. In the Distortion World, it fights the player in Origin Forme — its full power, no restrictions. The Griseous Orb, found in its realm, allows it to maintain Origin Forme in the normal world. Platinum is built around it: the boxart, the Distortion World sequence, the third of the creation trio finally given its proper weight.
In Altered Forme: a massive six-legged draconic creature with black and grey plating, ghostly red-tipped wings, and two long golden appendages extending from its chest. In Origin Forme (its true form within the Distortion World): a serpentine dragon with black and gold banding, six golden spines, and a vast, unsettling grace. Both forms carry the weight of something that has been alone in its dimension for a very long time.
