Fantina came to Sinnoh from somewhere else — she's not specific about where — and built a life around two things: Pokémon Contests and Ghost-type training. She's accomplished at both. Her French-influenced speech isn't an affectation; it's just the accent that came with her. In Platinum, the gym order shifts — Fantina becomes the third gym rather than the fifth. This means you face her with a weaker team and she has to adjust her expectations accordingly. She does this without complaint. She finds it more interesting to teach trainers who aren't ready than to crush trainers who are. Her nickname for her Drifblim is 'Loony.' She treats this nickname as totally normal. Drifblim floats serenely behind her at all times and appears to have agreed to this arrangement.
