Cynthia is the best Champion in the Pokémon series. That assessment is widely held and the reasoning isn't complicated: her Platinum team covers eleven of twelve possible types with no duplicate typings, Garchomp has been making grown trainers cry since 2007, and she fights at the end of an Elite Four gauntlet that has already taken everything you have. But what makes Cynthia exceptional isn't her team — it's when she shows up. She gives you Cut HM when you need it. She gives you the Secret Potion that saves the Psyduck-blocked path. She appears at Celestic Town ruins to explain the creation myth right before Cyrus starts trying to use it. She accompanies you into the Distortion World. She has been present at every pivot point, not because she was assigned there but because she understood what was coming. She describes herself as a researcher of myths. She means this. She finds Sinnoh's creation mythology genuinely fascinating and will talk about it at length and then apologize for getting carried away. She likes piano music, is notoriously messy by her own admission, and never once lets the Champion title make her seem unreachable.
