She's warmer than the type suggests — Ice-type leaders trend cold and remote; Candice is enthusiastic and direct. Her philosophy is that you need to befriend Pokémon before you can effectively battle with them. This isn't sentiment — she means it as practical training methodology. She asked Maylene to practice Fighting-type battles with her, because Fighting is Ice's major weakness and Candice would rather learn it from a friend than discover it in competition. This is the kind of long-term thinking the 'studious' reputation comes from.
