Aaron is the first Elite Four member you face, which means he sets the tone. The tone is: Bug-types are not what you think they are. Vespiquen, Drapion, Heracross, Yanmega — these are not the Bug-types of the early routes. Aaron has spent years finding and training the ones with actual power. He values friendship with his Pokémon above raw strength, and his teams reflect this: in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, every single Pokémon on his team is dual-typed — each one required specialized training to get there. He was a Gym Leader before joining the Elite Four, which gives him a different relationship to challengers than members who went straight to the top. He likes being surrounded by nature and tends to train in forests. If you beat him, he is genuinely happy for you.
