The dense bug-Pokémon wilderness between Viridian and Pewter City — a tangled green canopy where most new trainers catch their first Caterpie or Weedle.
Viridian Forest is a proving ground. It is where Ash caught his Caterpie and got stung out of a tree by a Beedrill swarm; where Misty had to walk through knee-deep Bug-Pokémon territory shrieking the whole way; where Samurai — a self-styled trainer kid in lacquered armor — challenges Ash to a duel over the forest paths. The forest smells of pine and metapod-silk, the Beedrill are territorial, and the trail is easy to lose. Most trainers emerge on the Pewter side tired, stung, and suddenly owning more Pokémon than they expected.
A thick coniferous-and-deciduous forest with a narrow dirt trail winding through it. Shafts of green-filtered sunlight, spider-like webs of Metapod string, droning wings of Beedrill in the distance. The ground is thick with leaf-litter and Caterpie tracks. A small clearing in the center where trainers often camp.
