Kanto's largest, most urban city — a neon-and-glass metropolis, home of Silph Co., the Fighting Dojo, and Sabrina's terrifying Psychic-type gym.
Saffron is the anti-Pallet Town: urban, stressful, and full of adults who don't have time for children. The city is the corporate heart of Kanto Pokémon industry — Silph Co. invents most Poké Balls and technology — and is frequently menaced by Team Rocket operations. Its two gyms compete directly: the Fighting Dojo once wanted to be the official Saffron gym, and Sabrina's Psychic gym defeated them outright, turning them into a secondary training facility. Ash earns the Marsh Badge here after the Lavender Town Haunter incident.
A gleaming metropolis of skyscrapers and neon signs at the center of Kanto. Silph Co.'s glass tower dominates the skyline. The streets are a grid of concrete and advertising, crowded with suits and schoolchildren. Saffron Gym is a tall dark tower marked with the psychic 'ψ' symbol on its front. The Fighting Dojo sits across the plaza in traditional Japanese architecture.
