The short northbound trail from Pallet Town to Viridian City — the first wild-Pokémon grass almost every Kanto trainer ever steps into.

Route 1 is where every new trainer's journey goes wrong. The grass looks harmless. It is not. This is where Ash encountered a flock of Spearow after Pikachu attacked one with a rock, where he shielded Pikachu through a downpour, and where a golden bird he has never seen flew above a rainbow bridge — an event Professor Oak cannot identify. The river bend on the route is where Misty fished him out of the water and he stole her bike. Nothing on Route 1 is neutral. It is the place that makes a trainer.

Appearance

A meandering dirt path between waist-high grass, small hills, and scattered groves of oak trees. A wooden signpost at the Pallet Town edge reads 'To Viridian City.' Pidgey and Rattata rustle in the grass. A river cuts through one stretch — this is where Misty is fishing when she first meets Ash.
