Indigo Plateau

Location from pokemon-kanto by

The official site of the Kanto/Johto Pokémon League finals — a mountain plateau above Viridian housing the League stadium, competitor village, and the Pokémon League's Hall of Fame.

Indigo Plateau is where Kanto trainers come to test themselves against every other trainer who cleared the eight-badge circuit that year. It hosts the preliminary tournament bracket and, at the end of the run, the finals for the regional title. Ash reached the top 16 here — quarterfinalist — before losing to Ritchie. The opening ceremony traditionally involves the Moltres-lit torch being carried by a runner along the plateau path and lit in the main arena — an event Team Rocket famously ruined by stealing the torch one year.

Appearance

A high windswept plateau reached by cable car from the valley floor. A huge stadium at the plateau's center, surrounded by a village of competitor cabins and a torch-bearing arch at the arena's entrance. The stadium itself has five rotating battlefields — grass, water, rock, ice, and neutral — that rotate up into the pit between matches.
