Cinnabar Gym awards the Volcano Badge. Challengers must first find the gym's entrance (hidden behind a rotating statue in Blaine's inn) and then solve a Pokémon-themed riddle before the battle begins. Blaine's Fire-types fight in an environment that neutralizes most Water-type counters — the heat is intense enough to boil incoming Water attacks mid-air. Ash won here with Charmeleon, freshly evolved.
A cavern deep inside the Cinnabar volcano, carved with natural rock and steel reinforcements. An active lava pool dominates the arena floor; the battlefield is a circular steel raft suspended over the lava on a network of chains. Heat shimmers, smells of sulfur.
