The eight official gym badges awarded by Kanto's League-licensed gyms — the collection required to qualify for the Indigo League championship.
Collecting all eight badges is a trainer's ticket to the Indigo League tournament. Each badge represents not just a gym-leader victory but a League-certified proficiency in that gym's specialty (Rock, Water, Electric, Grass, Poison, Psychic, Fire, Ground). Forged badges do appear and are prosecuted aggressively by the League's inspectors. Ash earned most of his legitimately; the Earth Badge was technically awarded by Jessie, James, and Meowth after defeating them.
Eight small enamel pins designed as stylized sigils — Boulder (grey octagon), Cascade (blue teardrop), Thunder (yellow eight-pointed star), Rainbow (multicolored flower), Soul (pink heart), Marsh (gold circle), Volcano (red flame), Earth (green four-pointed star). Each sits in its own slot inside a hinged wooden badge case.
