A Pokémon Watcher who joins Ash and Misty in the Orange Archipelago after Brock leaves, sketching wild Pokémon in his notebook and idolizing Professor Oak.
Tracey is easygoing where Brock was steady — softer-voiced, less practical, more likely to stop in the middle of a chase to draw a particularly fine Fearow. He calls himself a Pokémon Watcher, which is a legitimate but unglamorous profession somewhere between a biologist and a wildlife sketch artist. His great ambition is not gym badges or League victories. It is to be noticed, one day, by the greatest Pokémon researcher alive: Professor Oak. When he finally meets Oak at the end of the Orange Islands journey, he forgets every word of the speech he rehearsed and just hands over his sketchbook with trembling hands. He's calmer than Ash and Misty combined, which makes him a good mediator when they're sniping at each other, and his Venonat's radar has found them out of more than one jungle. He's not a great battler — his Scyther is retired and injured when he takes it in — but he has the unusual ability to soothe Pokémon other trainers have given up on.
