Rudy is a triple threat: a gym leader, a world-class dancer, and a trainer who drills his Pokémon to move in choreographed rhythm with him — his Electabuzz, Starmie, and Exeggutor each match Rudy's step-by-step motion. He falls head-over-heels for Misty the moment the group arrives on Trovita and asks her, earnestly, to stay with him. For a moment she considers it. Ash does not say anything — he is ten and does not know what's happening — but loses to Rudy's first Pokémon faster than he's used to. He wins the rematch on type and grit. Misty chooses to leave. Rudy waves them off with the Spike Shell Badge and no hard feelings.
