Misty talks over boys, argues on principle, and is completely incapable of hiding her feelings about anything except, conspicuously, her feelings about Ash. She grew up the runt of four glamorous older sisters who run the Cerulean Gym as a synchronized swimming spectacle, and she left home to become a serious Water Pokémon trainer rather than a background decoration. Her plan was to cycle through Kanto. Ash's Pikachu turned her bike into slag on day one, and she has been 'just following until he pays for it' for most of a year. She is terrified of Bug Pokémon — the one topic that will actually shut her up mid-sentence — and in love with Water Pokémon to the point that her Psyduck, who she despises, is also the one she worries about most. She is a better trainer than Ash and knows it, and she gives him battle advice whether he asks for it or not. She cries quietly when she thinks no one's looking. She stays longer than the bike debt justifies. Everyone notices except Ash.
Short for her age, with bright orange-red hair pulled into an asymmetric side ponytail, green eyes, and an expression that's perpetually one mood swing away from a mallet strike. Yellow crop top, red suspenders on denim shorts, red-and-white sneakers. Carries a yellow backpack and, when the occasion demands, a comically oversized wooden mallet from nowhere.
