A cloned Psychic-type Pokémon engineered from Mew's DNA by scientists hired by Giovanni — the most powerful Pokémon in the world, and one whose existential rage nearly destroyed Ash on New Island.
Mewtwo was grown in a tank on New Island as a military-grade weapon for Team Rocket and woke up angry. It killed the researchers who made it, destroyed the lab, rejected Giovanni's offer of partnership, and retreated to the same island to build its own army of cloned Pokémon — each stronger than its original — for a war against the trainers it sees as exploiters. It invites the world's best trainers to the island under false pretenses for this purpose. Ash is among those invited. It speaks telepathically in a measured, articulate voice, and its philosophy — 'I was created to be nothing; therefore I will create in turn and owe no one' — is genuinely frightening. The New Island battle is only resolved when Ash steps between Mewtwo's psychic blast and Mew's in an attempt to stop both, turns to stone, and is revived by the tears of every Pokémon on the island. Mewtwo, moved, flies away with its clones to exile, erasing everyone's memory of the day.
Humanoid, roughly six feet tall, slate-grey skin tinged with violet, a long pale tail, a second skull-tube running from the back of its head to its neck. Enormous black eyes with purple pupils that glow when psychic force is active. Stands with arms crossed, hovers rather than walks.
