A Team Rocket cat Pokémon who learned to walk upright and speak human language out of love for a Meowzie who rejected him — now the third member of the trio and the only Pokémon in the anime who does his own talking.
Meowth is the trio's strategist, translator, and emotional core, which is a low bar he clears by existing. He taught himself to walk and speak because he fell in love with a wealthy Meowzie in Hollywood who thought talking Pokémon were 'freaks' — he learned her language to impress her and she laughed in his face. He has carried that humiliation ever since. He is the only Pokémon in the trio who isn't in a ball, which he is both proud of and secretly lonely about. He dislikes being ordered around by humans but loves Jessie and James in the exhausted way siblings love siblings. He designs most of the trio's mechas — usually Pikachu-shaped — out of scrap and always includes a rocket-propelled trapdoor that he, specifically, falls into. He can translate Pokémon speech for humans, which is the only reason Pikachu and Togepi's dialogue gets through at all. He'd rather steal Pikachu than fight it, and he has a code of honor that occasionally makes him help the heroes out when Jessie isn't watching.
A small cream-and-tan feline Pokémon with a gold oval charm embedded in his forehead, curled whiskers, and oddly expressive eyes. Walks upright on two hind paws, gestures with his front paws. His claws come out when he's angry or scheming. Usually perched on Jessie's or James's shoulder or piloting the Meowth-shaped hot-air balloon.
