The male half of the Team Rocket trio — a runaway heir to a wealthy family who ran away from an arranged marriage to join an evil organization, mostly because the uniform was better than a tuxedo.
James is a soft-spoken rich kid who ran away from home to escape a fiancée named Jessebelle — a domineering look-alike of Jessie with a whip — and fell in with Team Rocket because the food was warm and no one told him who to marry. He is vain about his bottle cap collection, sentimental about his childhood Growlithe (Growlie), and emotionally the least stable of the trio. He cries easily, dresses in drag for disguises with alarming enthusiasm, and is genuinely fond of his Pokémon — his Koffing (later Weezing), his Victreebel that bites his head on release, and anything soft and round. With Jessie he has a partnership that is closer to an old married couple's than a romance. He rolls his eyes at her tantrums, calms her down when she's about to punch Meowth, and follows her schemes knowing they will fail. Away from her he is quieter, sadder, more obviously running from something. He will never, ever go home.
Tall and slender with chin-length lavender-blue hair falling over one green eye, pale features. White Team Rocket uniform identical to Jessie's but with a longer jacket cut. Black gloves, white pants, black boots. Often carrying a bottle cap collection or a Magikarp salesman's suitcase.
