Mega Stones date back to a meteor strike three thousand years ago — the same meteor, per lore, that froze AZ's grief into the Ultimate Weapon. Each stone keys to a single species (or evolution line). Charizardite X to Alain's Charizard. Lucarionite to Korrina's Lucario. Gardevoirite to Diantha. Sceptilite to Sawyer. Abomasite to Wulfric. Without the Stone, a Pokémon cannot Mega Evolve even if its Trainer has a Key Stone.
Small spherical stones, each species-matched — Charizardite X a black-blue swirl, Lucarionite a blue-silver disc, Gardevoirite pink-and-green, Abomasite white-and-blue, Sceptilite green-and-brown, Blazikenite red-orange. Worn embedded in a collar, necklace, or bracelet on the Pokémon.
