The talking Scratch Cat — Team Rocket's third wheel, translator, and schemer, walks on two legs like a tiny mobster in a cream coat.
Meowth taught himself to speak human to impress a Meowzie in Hollywood — that origin story is canon and he still brings it up when drunk on Moomoo Milk. He translates for Pokémon and for Jessie-and-James. In Kalos he mostly keeps the Rocket trio's balloon airborne and argues with Pikachu via insults that only Pokémon-speakers understand. When Team Flare threatens Kalos, his actually-decent heart surfaces briefly, then gets buried again under the next mechanical-Arbok disaster.
