Mairin bounces where Alain glowers. Awarded the Honor of Kalos medal at the start of her journey, she chose Chespin because it was the stubborn one nobody picked and attached herself to Alain on the same day. She chases him region-to-region, takes it hard when he tells her she's a burden, and still runs back when he's in trouble. When Chespie is drained by Team Flare's Giant Rock, she breaks. She's the emotional conscience of Alain's arc — the person who makes him look at what he's actually doing.
