Ash's Kalos starter — the Froakie nobody could train, the Frogadier who kept running away, the Greninja who fused with Ash through Bond Phenomenon to become Ash-Greninja.
Greninja is proud, serious, and quietly affectionate. As a Froakie he rejected every trainer before Ash and scarred his own species for looking down on him. He trusts Ash because Ash treated him like a partner from the first minute. The Bond Phenomenon terrifies them both the first several times — the feedback between their nervous systems meant every hit Greninja took tore through Ash too. They nearly break. They learn. Then they beat Mega Gardevoir. Then they push Alain's Mega Charizard X to the last breath of the Kalos League Final. At the end of XYZ he leaves Ash voluntarily to guard Kalos alongside Squishy and Z-2. He blushes when praised.
Dark-blue amphibian ninja, pink tongue-scarf wrapped across its neck, webbed hands and feet. In Ash-Greninja form, a giant torrent of water shapes itself into a shuriken on its back, its body takes on Ash's red-and-black color pattern, and both trainer and Pokémon move in lockstep.
