Vermilion smells like salt, fried street food, and the faint ozone wherever Electric-type Pokémon congregate. Horns from the S.S. Anne punctuate every morning. Lt. Surge's Gym rumbles with Thunderbolt practice at dusk. The harbor district buzzes with dock workers, ferry operators, and researchers from other regions coming in to trade Pokémon data with Cerise Lab. The city sits at the crossroads of everywhere -- trains south to the S.S. Anne, ferries east to Sevii, flights via the harbor airship port to any region you can name. For Ash and Goh it is home base and departure lounge in equal measure; they leave from here at least once a week and return here with another Pokémon and another story. The city's mood is unhurried, warm, and a little touristy, which suits a show that treats every location as a jumping-off point.
