Rotom Phones are a standard Galar-origin accessory that spread worldwide by Journeys' timeframe. They are possessed by a real Rotom, which gives them personality -- opinions, sass, small acts of sabotage when ignored. They translate, map, record, and provide Dex entries on any Pokémon they're aimed at. Each character's Rotom Phone has its own temperament. Ash's is excitable and dramatic, like its owner. Goh's is efficient and snippy, with a running catalog of his Dex count. Chloe's is quiet, patient, and will suddenly develop an opinion on something she has been ignoring for weeks. They charge overnight in Cerise Lab's communal dock. They are the reason Ash has not been genuinely lost since he left Alola -- in theory, though the Rotom Phones themselves sometimes disagree about which direction is north.
