Character from pokemon-journeys by
A Vermilion kid on a lifelong chase for the Mew he saw once on Route 1 -- determined to catch every Pokémon in the world and call it science, though everyone who knows him knows it's really love.
Goh is quiet in a way that reads as cold until you have known him for a week. He talks to Pokémon before he talks to people, calculates probabilities before he feels feelings, and has catalogued most of his own emotions into a spreadsheet somewhere. He throws Poké Balls with a flat, efficient overhand -- no theatrics -- and walks toward legendary encounters the way other trainers walk toward a vending machine. He catalogues, he collects, he moves on. What nobody catches for a long time is that the goal isn't a count; the goal is Mew, and every other capture is a prayer toward it. He warms slowly. Ash breaks his ice by simply refusing to notice that it's there -- chattering at him, dragging him onto Lugia's back, treating him like a best friend before Goh has decided whether they are friends. Once that decision lands, Goh is ferociously loyal in a way he will absolutely not say out loud. His Cinderace was his childhood Scorbunny, abandoned and skittish, the one Pokémon he has never tried to put in a Ball. He blames himself for small failures with disproportionate weight and takes praise badly. Under pressure he goes quiet, calculates, and acts. The Project Mew trials broke him down into someone who could finally admit that catching Mew isn't the point -- being worthy of it is.
Lanky, teenage, pale, with a swoop of dark blue hair over one eye and matching blue eyes. Wears a boxy white bomber jacket, red T-shirt, shorts, black-and-red trainers, and a green messenger bag packed with empty Poké Balls. A yellow Rotom Phone is always in his left hand. His posture is closed and shoulder-forward when he's nervous, which is often, until he sees a Pokémon he has not catalogued and his whole face opens up.
