Cynthia

Character from pokemon-journeys by

Sinnoh's undefeated Champion and the scholar of legendary Pokémon -- a Masters Eight contender who takes Ash seriously long before anyone else does.

Cynthia is the adult in every room she enters. She researches ruins, studies the myth of the Original Dragon, and treats battling as a kind of applied scholarship. She speaks softly, phrases losses as lessons, and makes younger trainers feel simultaneously seen and slightly outmatched. Her Garchomp is her signature, her constant, and the reason most challengers go home with a new respect for speed tiers. She fights Ash in the World Coronation Series as an honest test and loses with visible, graceful pride when he clears it. She does not perform humility -- she means it. When Leon asks her how to handle Ash's unorthodox timing in the finals, she gives him actual advice, not a quip. Under pressure she is warmer, not colder; her care for trainers she has beaten is how she expresses affection.

Appearance

Tall and composed with pale blonde hair falling over one eye, gray eyes, and an angular, patient beauty. Wears a long black coat with fur trim, black shirt, pants, and boots -- funeral-formal even at a beach. Wears the Sinnoh Champion's black regalia at matches. Moves the way someone moves in a museum: slow, attentive, not touching anything she does not understand yet.
