Gengar

Character from pokemon-journeys by

Ash's haunting housemate -- a Gengar that latched onto him from a Kanto graveyard and spent months hazing him before agreeing to be caught.

Gengar is a prankster with a grudge that it solved by attaching itself permanently to Ash. It originally lived as a wild specter that possessed a cursed Poké Ball; once Ash accepted it, it transitioned smoothly from tormentor to teammate. It still plays pranks on Pikachu, still floats through Goh's bedroom at three in the morning, still grins when scolded. In battle Gengar is precise and fast -- Hypnosis, Shadow Ball, Shadow Punch combos -- and thrives on unorthodox matchups. It treats Ash with affectionate exasperation. Under pressure it grins wider. It was instrumental in Ash's Masters Eight climb and likes to sit on the rafters of Wyndon Stadium between matches.

Appearance

A rounded purple Ghost with a wide grin full of pointed teeth, glowing red eyes, and stubby legs that float more than they walk. Passes through walls with visible amusement. Moves with the lopsided drift of something that does not fully commit to gravity and enjoys the freedom.
