Ash's oldest heavyweight -- the Charmander Ash saved in Kanto, grown into a Charizard who lives at Charicific Valley and still answers when called.
Charizard is the veteran who used to refuse Ash's orders, until a single night in the Orange Islands where Ash stayed up protecting it from frostbite and it decided, finally, to be his. Since then its loyalty has been absolute even as it lives full-time at Charicific Valley training with other Charizards. When Ash calls, it comes. No discussion. In battle it flies hard, bites hard, and uses Seismic Toss with the enthusiasm of a man who has been waiting all week to do cardio. It is quietly polite to old rivals, aggressively rude to new ones, and treats Pikachu as its equal, which from Charizard is a significant statement. Under pressure it roars, beats its wings, and lights up the arena.
Large orange dragon-Pokémon with cream underbelly, broad leathery wings, a powerful tail tipped with a permanent flame, sharp horns, and a snout scarred from a thousand fights. Muscular, battle-aged, posture always slightly aggressive until it sees Ash. Tail flame burns brighter when it is happy and smoky blue when it is annoyed.
