Whirl Islands

Location from pokemon-johto by

A four-island archipelago off Johto's southwest coast, home of the Whirl Cup water-Pokémon tournament and the long-hidden resting place of Lugia.

The Whirl Islands are Johto's water kingdom. The Whirl Cup — a biennial tournament for Water-type trainers, which Misty enters and makes the semifinals of — is the most prestigious Water tournament in the region. Deep in the central island's sea caves, Lugia is said to sleep. The Silver Wing tournament trophy is said to be a feather from Lugia itself, given freely a century ago.

Appearance

Four rocky islands arranged in a ring, with whirlpools between them that have sunk shipping since the region was first charted. Dense forests of pine on the upper slopes; sea caves along every shore. The main island hosts the Whirl Cup stadium — a floating platform in the central lagoon. Gulls. Diving cormorants. Wind that sings between the rocks.
