A thick, dim, primordial forest between Azalea and Goldenrod, home to the Voice of the Forest Celebi, and site of the climactic battle of the fourth Pokémon movie.
Ilex Forest is one of Johto's oldest wild places. Celebi — the Voice of the Forest — protects it across time, and the forest's growth cycles track Celebi's movements between decades. A shrine at the forest's heart, dedicated to Celebi, has been tended by the same line of forest-keepers for a hundred and fifty years. In the fourth Pokémon movie, a Team Rocket executive corrupts Celebi here with a Dark Ball, and Ash and a time-displaced Sam — young Professor Oak — save the forest.
A dim, canopy-covered old-growth forest of huge gnarled oaks and beech, with a narrow stone-paved path running through it. Ferns the height of a person. Moss-covered shrines on every other tree. Dappled green light. Butterfree and Metapod. A small Shinto shrine at the forest's heart marked by a worn stone Celebi statue.
