A high-altitude mountain town in Johto's northeast, home to the Dragon Clan, Clair's Dragon-type gym, and the sacred Dragon's Den where true dragon tamers are tested.
Blackthorn is the Dragon Clan's town. Everyone in town is descended from or married into the clan. Clair, the gym leader, is the clan's current heir; Lance is her cousin and the clan's most famous son. Dragon-type Pokémon — Dragonair, Dragonite, Kingdra — are seen casually in the streets. The Dragon's Den, behind the town, is a sacred cavern where the clan's final tests are held. Trainers who fail Clair's gym are sent into the Den, and those who pass return with a Dragon Fang.
A traditional Japanese-Ainu-influenced town built on a steep terraced valley in the Blackthorn mountains. Thick pine-wood houses with heavy tile roofs. A central stone shrine to the Dragon Clan. Behind the town, an enormous limestone cliff with an opening into the sacred Dragon's Den cavern. Snow in winter; cold fog even in summer.
