Togepi

Character from pokemon-johto by

Misty's hatchling Togepi, a Spike Ball Pokémon that thinks she is its mother and the world is a game it's winning. Its Metronome attack has ended more Team Rocket ambushes than most evolved Pokémon on the team.

Togepi cannot speak anything but its own name and two variations in pitch, and yet it is emotionally the most articulate member of the group. It reads the tone of a room instantly and reaches for whoever needs it — Misty when she's angry, Ash when he's losing, Pikachu when Pikachu is sulking. It cries when it's lost and laughs when it's found, which is most of the time. Its Metronome attack is terrifying. It raises a single chubby arm, waves it solemnly back and forth, and whatever happens next is dictated by the laws of chance — a light show, a whirlpool, a Hyper Beam that scorches a tree in half. Neither Misty nor Togepi can control it. Misty has accepted this. Jessie and James have not. Late in Johto, a Togepi Paradise opens beneath the group's feet and Togepi chooses to stay there among its own kind, in the care of a mirage prince.

Appearance

A small, round, ivory-shelled Fairy-type barely bigger than a grapefruit, with a jagged eggshell still around its lower body that it has never fully shed. Two small pointed ears, wide shining black eyes, a tiny open-mouth smile, and stubby arms it waves when excited. Painted with a single red triangle and two blue triangles on its front shell. Always being carried, usually by Misty.

Also known as: Togepi, Togepriiii
