They are obsessive about Bug-type Pokémon as a research field — they catalogue every new species they encounter, can identify evolution stages by chirp, and are generally considered the leading Bug-type authority under the age of thirty. Their gym is a forested, open-roof structure that is functionally a natural habitat. Bugsy gives out the Hive Badge and specializes in a Scyther, a Spinarak, and a Metapod that is more dangerous than it looks. They take losing hard — they apologize to their Pokémon, write down the matchup analysis, and promise a rematch. Ash's win over Scyther with Chikorita's Razor Leaf is the kind of small-moment triumph Bugsy will still study.
