The black Rayquaza sealed in Roy's Ancient Poké Ball — Lucius's partner, released briefly during Roy's worst moment and watching the world through the ball ever since.
Rayquaza is Lucius's partner, which means it is older than every human currently alive and has reasons to trust no one. It emerged briefly from the Ancient Poké Ball when a younger Roy was in mortal danger, imprinted on him dimly, and retreated. The remainder of the series is about Roy becoming someone worth emerging for. Rayquaza is not tame. Rayquaza will not ever be tame. When it chooses Roy, it will choose him the way a storm chooses a coast.
A serpentine Rayquaza with unusually dark-green, almost black scaling, bright yellow orbital markings, and gold-inlaid ventral plating. Its inner maw glows when enraged. When summoned it coils in the sky like a stormfront with a face.
