A slender ancient tower on a remote Hoenn island — the only structure on earth Rayquaza will descend to, and the geographic altar for calling it down during emergencies.
Sky Pillar is not a human-built structure — its origins predate recorded Hoenn civilization — and no one knows how it was built or by whom. What is known is that Rayquaza considers its peak home, and that the altar at its summit has been used, twice in recorded history, to call Rayquaza down. The ritual to call it works only when the holder of the summoning right understands what they're asking for. During the Sootopolis crisis Wallace ascends the pillar to summon Rayquaza, who responds and flies south to Sootopolis to break up Kyogre and Groudon. The island is otherwise completely uninhabited — its only animal life is a few wild Dragonite that nest in the tower's lower levels. Access is by boat only, and the currents around the island are treacherous enough that most travel guides warn against the trip.
A black-stone spire rising a thousand feet straight up from a small desert island east of Hoenn, its exterior covered in weather-worn carvings of serpentine dragons. A spiral staircase winds the interior with no railings. The top opens to a flat platform with a ring of carved pillars. Perpetual high winds whip the peak. Clouds often sit directly above it, even when the surrounding sea is clear.
