A mid-sized Hoenn city with a Gym run by May and Max's father Norman — orchard-ringed, bicycle-friendly, and the emotional home base of the Maple family.
Petalburg feels like a city that's one size smaller than it pretends to be. It has a Pokémon Center, a Pokémart, a gym, and a good bakery, and that's pretty much it, but every resident knows every other resident. Norman's gym is the social anchor — weddings, parades, and regional sports tournaments are all held in the gym's exterior courtyard when it isn't hosting battles. The Maple house is on the eastern edge of the city, near the orchards. May grew up here and Max still lives here most of the year while he's too young to travel. Brock has been invited to cook in Caroline's kitchen by videophone, and the whole family treats him as an honorary uncle. The city is a frequent stopover for Frontier-bound trainers taking the western route.
A sunlit city laid out in concentric circles around a central plaza. Streets lined with cherry and plum trees, stone-paved bike paths, wooden footbridges over irrigation canals. The gym is a broad, low building with sliding doors and five interior challenge rooms. Houses here are larger than in Littleroot — two stories, wide verandas, shingled roofs.
