A neon-lit Hoenn commercial hub — gambling, arcades, the Game Corner, Wattson's Electric-type Gym, and the unstable abandoned New Mauville power plant directly underneath it.
Mauville is the loud city on the Hoenn circuit. Trainers stop here to gamble at the Game Corner, buy a new bike from the Rydel's Cycles flagship, or just wander the arcade strip. Wattson's gym is a pleasant surprise inside the chaos — its mechanized doors and floor panels make every challenger's run feel like a game show. The city is deeply tied to Electric-type Pokémon, and Magnemite and Voltorb lairs are a routine problem in the underground. Directly beneath Mauville is New Mauville, the abandoned power plant Wattson built and then abandoned. Its generators still run and attract Electric-type Pokémon. The problem gets bad enough during Ash's visit that Wattson enlists him and Max to help shut the malfunctioning core down. Tyson trained in Mauville before his Ever Grande Conference run.
A flat-plateau city that looks like a carnival midway at night — neon signs, LED billboards, a Ferris wheel on the east edge, a Game Corner casino at its center with golden trim. Streetlights hum audibly. Bicycle shops everywhere (Mauville is the center of Hoenn's cycling culture). Under all of it, New Mauville's abandoned generator grid vents steam through street grates.
