A mountain hot-spring town on Mt. Chimney's southern slope — steam-warmed streets, a brand-new young Gym Leader named Flannery, and a long history of volcanic fire-type training.
Lavaridge is a retreat town. Visitors come for the hot springs — natural thermal baths infused with minerals that soothe both human and Pokémon. Most of its permanent population are retired Fire-type trainers and bath-house staff. Flannery's grandfather ran the gym for decades and the whole town went into mourning when he passed. Flannery inheriting feels, to the older residents, like something being restored. Mt. Chimney is directly above the town and its occasional ash-falls coat every surface every few days. During the Weather Trio crisis Mt. Chimney nearly erupts as Team Magma tries to trigger Groudon from its crater. Ash and the group help contain the crisis on behalf of Flannery and the town.
A small cluster of inns and bathhouses built into the volcanic mountainside, with wooden walkways over steam vents and stone-carved hot spring pools dotted through the town center. Sulfur smell. Red-tiled roofs. The gym is a low stone building with a floor of pumice and an arena pit lit by thermal vents. Above the town, Mt. Chimney's active crater glows at night.
