Cave of Origin

Location from pokemon-hoenn by

The sacred cavern beneath Sootopolis — the mythical resting place of Kyogre and Groudon, the geographic source of the Red and Blue Orbs, and the epicenter of the Weather Trio crisis.

The Cave of Origin is older than Hoenn civilization and older than most recorded history. Ancient Hoenn hieroglyphs on its walls depict the first confrontation of Kyogre and Groudon, and the arrival of Rayquaza to end it. The cavern's tidal chamber is the place where those legendaries first rested, and pressure readings inside shift dramatically in the days before any major weather event. Priests of Sootopolis keep a low-key watch over the cavern, refusing entry to most visitors. During the Weather Trio crisis the cavern floods completely — Kyogre briefly emerges here on its way to the surface confrontation. After the crisis resolves, the cavern is sealed by Sootopolis's priesthood. No further visitors are officially permitted.

Appearance

A vast underground cavern lit by bioluminescent algae in green-blue stripes along the walls. Stalactites the size of office towers. A shallow subterranean sea at the bottom that rises and falls with the tide outside. Ancient pictographs carved into the walls show Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza in pre-human history. The air tastes like ozone and salt. Pressure changes here as weather shifts above.
