Her Pokémon are all from Kanto (Slowbro, Lapras, Pidgeot, Butterfree) and she treats them like long-term colleagues rather than tools. She sees right through Harley's games and simply refuses to engage with them. She knows Brock from Pewter City and greets him with the relaxed affection of a childhood neighbor, which is the only time in the series Brock doesn't propose marriage on sight. She trained Drew when he was younger and still offers him post-match analysis. Her victory at the Kanto Grand Festival over May in the semifinals is delivered almost apologetically — she congratulates May on making the cut, then goes on to take the ribbon cup.
