Noland

Character from pokemon-hoenn by

Factory Head of the Battle Factory — a rough-around-the-edges aviator-mechanic Frontier Brain who assigns challengers a random rental team and tests how well they can read strangers.

Noland runs the Battle Factory as a rental-Pokémon challenge: neither challenger nor Brain uses their own team. He assigns rotating rental Pokémon and judges how fast a trainer can learn a stranger's strengths. He's gruff, direct, and allergic to ceremony — he hands out the Knowledge Symbol with a nod rather than a speech. He has a personal bond with a gigantic wild Articuno who lives in the forest near the Factory. He doesn't keep the bird but the bird visits him, which is all the evidence the other Frontier Brains need that Noland's connection-reading instincts work on legendaries too. Ash's challenge against him involves Noland battling with Articuno personally — not as a rental, but as a partner. Ash wins with Charizard and earns the Knowledge Symbol.

A muscular man with short spiky brown hair, thick eyebrows, and a broad grin. Wears a crimson red cap, a long white sleeveless coat over a black tank, black trousers tucked into crimson red boots, gray gloves. Grease smudge on one cheek. Carries himself like someone who built his gym himself and knows every rivet.
