Lucy doesn't chat. Challengers enter the Battle Pike, draw random corridor lots determining what they face — healing, hostile trainers, wild Pokémon, or Lucy herself — and only the lucky-or-skilled enough to find her corridor get a shot at the Luck Symbol. Her battle style is patient poison-stall. Her Seviper can last twenty turns on Rest and Toxic alone. She has one soft spot, and his name is Brock. She meets him during the Battle Pike challenge and becomes instantly, quietly, completely smitten. Brock doesn't notice for three episodes. When she loses to Ash she hands over the Luck Symbol with an expressionless nod and then pulls Brock aside to invite him to a formal dinner at the Pike, which Brock accepts in a state of shock. Their romance stalls at 'friends' but Lucy writes him letters through the rest of the series.
