The Eon twins — Latias (red) and Latios (blue), a pair of Dragon/Psychic legendaries who live invisibly in Alto Mare, protecting the canal city with a shared Soul Dew artifact and a grief that spans decades.
Latias and Latios guard Alto Mare, a Venice-like island city in southern Hoenn, and they have done so quietly for generations. Their Soul Dew — a crystallized form of their mother's soul — powers the city's defense grid. When an Eon Sisters duo of thieves attempt to steal the Soul Dew, Latios sacrifices himself to defend it, leaving Latias alone. Latias shapeshifts into a girl named Bianca (or herself) to kiss Ash on the cheek before he leaves — the single most confusing romantic moment of the early anime. They appear in Movie 5 (Heroes) and are canonical emotional anchors for May's later arc, as she meets Latias again during a subsequent Johto detour. The Eon twins have the loosest boundary between 'Pokémon' and 'spirit' in the series.
Two long-bodied, jet-shaped dragons — Latias with a red-pink body and soft eyes, Latios with a deeper blue body and sharper eyes. Both can fold their wing-arms against their sides to streamline through air. Invisibility at will. Latias can shapeshift into a human girl (usually a young woman with teal-green hair). Both project warm mental pressure you can feel in a room before you see them.
