The Wish Pokémon — a tiny legendary Steel/Psychic Pokémon that wakes only once every thousand years during the Millennium Comet's passage, befriends Max during its week awake, and grants wishes that are much more literal than anyone wants.
Jirachi wakes for one week every thousand years when the Millennium Comet passes overhead. For that week it is vulnerable — it can be captured, exploited, or befriended, and the line between those things is thin. Max accidentally becomes the first person to be the target of its wake-up sequence and they bond instantly; Max spends the whole week introducing Jirachi to everything Max finds delightful. A disgraced scientist named Butler attempts to use Jirachi's wish-granting power to resurrect an ancient fusion Pokémon named Groudon (not the legendary — a failed clone), leading to a cataclysmic battle. Jirachi helps save the day and then, with the comet passing, returns to its thousand-year sleep. Max keeps a Jirachi drawing folded in his PokéNav for the rest of the Advanced Generation.
A very small white-and-yellow humanoid Pokémon with a large triangular head, two streamer-like tags trailing from its head, and a third eye on its stomach that opens when it's granting wishes. Hovers in midair. Has two tiny arms it tucks against its body and a sleepy expression even when awake. Size of a large house cat.
