The Continent Pokémon — one of the weather trio, a titanic Ground-type legendary awakened by Team Magma, bringing drought and rising landmass wherever it walks.
Groudon is the land-side counterpart to Kyogre, and like Kyogre it is not so much a Pokémon as a geological force. When it emerges from the Seafloor Cavern after Team Magma's ritual it immediately begins drying the air around it — a hundred-kilometer radius of drought follows its footsteps. It walks directly toward Kyogre on instinct, driven by the ancient feud. It is not malevolent. It responds to the Red Orb's intent, and when Maxie loses control of the orb its behavior becomes incoherent — it wanders, it fights, it flattens a reef. Rayquaza's arrival at Sootopolis is what breaks the confrontation. Groudon retreats to a deep land cavern and the drought it caused recedes over weeks. Some of the Hoenn coastal drop-offs are now permanent.
An enormous red-and-gray-plated dragon-like Pokémon with massive spike-plated arms, a ridged back, curved horns, and glowing yellow eyes. Its hide is superheated — air shimmers around it, and the ground cracks in radial lines where it sets its weight down. Its steps raise tectonic ridges. Lava drips from its underbelly when it's active.
